சர்ச்சைக்குரிய இண்டர்லோக் நாவல் மீட்கப்பட்ட செய்தி கேட்டு மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்த இந்தியர்கள் பலருக்கு துணைக்கல்வி அமைச்சர் டாக்டர் முகமட் ஃபுவாட் ஸர்காஷி வெளியிட்டுள்ள அறிக்கை பெரும் ஏமாற்றத்தையும் அதிர்ச்சியையும் அளித்துள்ளது என நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர் சார்ல்ஸ் சந்தியாகோ கூறினார்.

கடந்த வெள்ளிகிழமை  சர்ச்சைக்குரிய இண்டர்லோக் நாவல் மீட்கப்பட்டுள்ளது என மஇகா தேசியத் தலைவர் ஜி.பழனிவேலும் அக்கட்சியின் தேசிய துணைத்தலைவரும் மனிதவளத் துறை அமைச்சருமான டாக்டர் சுப்ரமணியமும்  பகிரங்கமாக அறிவித்திருந்தனர்.

ஆனால் ‘இண்டேர்லோக் நாவல் உண்மையிலே மீட்கப்பட்டதா; இல்லையா? என்பது குறித்து கல்வியமைச்சர் மொகதீன் யாசின் அறிவிப்பிற்காக அனைவரும் காத்திருக்க வேண்டும்’ என முகமட் ஃபுவாட் கூறியிருப்பது, ஒட்டுமொத்த இந்தியர்களையும் மீண்டும் அவமானப்படுத்தும் செயல் என கூறுகிறார் கிள்ளான் நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர் சார்ல்ஸ் சந்தியாகோ.

அப்படியானால், ஆளங்கட்சியிலிருந்துகொண்டு இந்திய சமூதாயத்தின் தலைவர்கள் என மார்தட்டிக் கொள்ளும் மஇகா தலைவர்களின் குரலுக்கு எந்த மதிப்பும் இல்லையா? இந்தியர்களின் பிரதிநிதிகளின் முடிவுக்கு அரசாங்கம் மதிப்பளிக்காதா? என அவர் வினவினார்.

ஆரம்பத்தில் இண்டர்லோக் நாவலுக்கு எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவித்தபோதே அந்நாவலை அரசாங்கம் மீட்டுக்கொண்டிருக்கவேண்டும். தாமதம் செய்தற்குக் காரணமே இல்லை. அந்த நாவலில் கூறப்பட்டுள்ள விசயங்களை ஏற்றுக் கொள்ள முடியாது என்பது அனைவரும் அறிந்த ஒன்றே. அந்தப் பிரச்னை எழுப்பப்பட்டதும் அது பள்ளிக்கூடப் பாடப் புத்தகத் திட்டத்திருந்து உடனடியாக மீட்டுக் கொள்ளப்பட்டிருக்க வேண்டும் எனவும் சார்ல்ஸ் கூறினார்.

ஆனால், தற்போது மீட்டுக் கொள்ளப்படும் எனக் கூறுவதும் பின்பு, துணைத் தலைமையமைச்சரின் அறிவிப்பிற்கு காத்திருக்க வேண்டும் என்பதும், மத்திய அரசாங்கத்தின் அரசியல் நாடகமே என்பதனை மக்கள் புரிந்து கொண்டு, வரும் பொதுத் தேர்தலில் தீர்க்க முடிவு எடுக்குமாறும் சார்ல்ஸ் கேட்டுக்கொண்டார்.

Anti-Indian Interlok campaign will backfire

Plans by two NGOs to campaign against Indian reps in the coming polls will cost Barisan Nasional dear, says Klang MP Charles Santiago.

KUALA LUMPUR: If the Malay Consultative Council (MPM) and National Writers Association (Pena) go ahead with their plan to campaign against Indian candidates in the 13th general election, then it will be Barisan Nasional which will suffer.

According to DAP’s Klang MP Charles Santiago, since MPM and Pena were aligned to BN, the coalition’s Indian-based parties would receive the worst brunt of the campaign.

“It is the Indian BN parliamentarians who would be more affected, especially the MIC. MIC would suffer more.

“It is the first time that organised groups within BN are going against its framework.

“In the recent by-election, the Malays did not vote Pakatan Rakyat Indian leaders because of the Interlok controversy,” he told FMT.

Santiago was commenting on MPM and Pena’s statements vowing not to support any Indian candidates in the upcoming election.

Their assertions were part of two memorandums which were handed over, albiet separately, to Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.

Both MPM and Pena had reportedly felt that Indian leaders had successfully manipulated and convinced the government to bow to the demands of the Indian community over the Interlok book.

Respect decision

Meanwhile, Hulu Selangor parliamentarian P Kamalanathan, who could not be reached, wrote in his blog that he stood by the government’s decision on the Interlok issue although “it did not please everyone”.

“It is imperative that the leadership makes a decision that is firm, fair and addressed the fundamental role of the government to uphold peace and unity in the nation at all times.

“We are all aware that no decision will please everybody but we must respect and believe in the wisdom of our leaders chosen in a democratic process,” said the MIC man.

Kamalanathan also pledged to serve his constituents “without any bias on their religious, political or social standings”.

Selangor state councillor Dr Xavier Jeyakumar, meanwhile, has called for the issue to be looked at from a Malaysian perspective.

He said it was the responsibility of all races to maintain harmony in the country.

Warning groups not to “play the racial game”, the Selangor state exco member said Indians were not challenging the free will of the author Abdullah Hussein.

Instead the community merely wanted the Form Five book replaced with another one that promoted racial harmony.

The Interlok book has been shrouded by controversy over the usage of the term “pariah”, which is considered deragatory to the Indian community.

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had on Jan 27, announced that an independent panel would be set up to amend the book.

MP Santiago accuses Muhyiddin of pandering to ultra-Malays at the expense of Indians but a writers’ association welcomes it.

PETALING JAYA: Various groups have condemned the government decision to retain the novel Interlok as a Malay literature text in schools, and their anger is directed mostly at Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also Education Minister.

Klang MP Charles Santiago called it a “slap” on the face of Malaysian Indians and accused Muhyiddin of pandering to ultra-Malays to win votes in the Tenang by-election.

Muhyiddin, who announced the government decision today, said there would be amendments to the Abdullah Hussain novel to avoid hurt to Indian sentiments. Many groups are offended by what they describe as the novel’s stereotyped and misleading characterisation of Indians in Malaysia.

“He is pandering to the conservatives within Umno to secure his position in the party at the expense of the Indian community,” said Santiago.

This morning, Santiago led a group of 25 people representing non-governmental organisations and opposition parties to the Tenang police station, where they lodged a police report against the Education Minister and demanded complete withdrawal of the novel from schools.

Government misled?

The International Movement for the Preservation of Tamils, one of the NGOs, said it would hold a special prayer tomorrow in response to the Muhyiddin’s announcement.

“We will hold the prayer in Subramaniyar temple in Labis,” said the group’s public relations officer R Suresh Kumar.

He urged MIC to condemn the decision, saying this was the best time for the party to prove its mettle.

“If the MIC president has any clout in BN, he should act now,” he said.

The chairman of the Coalition of Malaysian Indian NGOs, A Vaithilingam, said the decision went against the government’s 1Malaysia campaign.

“I believe the government has been misled,” he said.

The Malaysian Indian Business Association also condemned the decision, with its president P Sivakumar arguing against the establishment of another panel to amend the novel.

He added that the Indian community’s view on the matter was very clear.

“The book should be taken out from schools,”said Sivakumar, who warned that the Indians may punish the ruling government for this in the next polls.

P Uthayakumar, the secretary-general of the Human Rights Party, meanwhile said he would respond only after seeing the amendments to the novel.

Kavyan welcomes it

However Kavyan Writers Association welcomed Muhyiddin’s decision to retain Interlok with necessary amendments.

“The decision is proof that the government is willing to listen to the plight and voices of the Indians,” said its president Uthaya Sankar SB.

He also reiterated the association’s stand that it was the Education Ministry and Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka(DBP) that should take the blame, instead of National Laureate Abdullah Hussain since the copyright for the students’ edition was held by DBP.

இண்டர்லோக் நாவலை பள்ளிக்கூடங்களில் பாடப்புத்தகமாய் பயன்படுத்துவதிலிருந்து மீட்டுக் கொள்ள வேண்டும் என ம.இ.கா. கல்வி அமைச்சைக் கேட்டு கொண்டுள்ளது.

இவ்வாறு இந்நாவலை தடை செய்ய வேண்டும் என கல்வி அமைச்சைக் கேட்டுக் கொண்ட ம.இ.காவின் தைரியமான முடிவை நான் வரவேற்கிறேன். அவ்வாறு செய்தமைக்கு ம.இ.காவுக்கு சபாஷ். ஆனாலும், ஏன் இவர்கள் இந்நாவலை தடை செய்ய வேண்டும் என கூறுகின்றார்கள் என்பதுதான்  இங்கு எழும் கேள்வி என கிள்ளான் நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர் சார்ல்ஸ் சந்தியாகோ கூறினார்.

ஒருவேளை, தெனாங்கில் உள்ள இந்திய மக்களை கவருவதற்காகவும், அவர்களை காந்தம் இரும்பைக் கவர்வதுப் போல் தன் வசம் இழுத்து அவர்களது வாக்குகளை அடைவதற்காகவும் எடுக்கும் ஒரு முயற்சியா? என சார்ல்ஸ் சந்தியாகோ கேள்வி எழுப்பினார்.

அப்படி ஒருவேளை ம.இ.காவின் வேண்டுதலுக்கேற்ப அரசாங்கம் அந்நாவலை மீட்டுக் கொள்ள மறுத்தால், தேசிய முன்னணி கட்சியை விட்டு விலக ம.இ.கா. தயாரா? என சார்ல்ஸ் சவால் விடுத்தார்.

ஆரம்பக்காலத்திலிருந்தே, ம.இ.காவும், ம.சி.சாவும் என்னென்ன செய்ய வேண்டும் என அம்னோத்தான் கூறிக்கொண்டு வருகிறது. ஆனால் இம்முறை இவ்விவகாரத்தில்  இந்தியர்களுக்காக , அம்னோவிற்கு எதிராக போராட ம.இ.கா. முன் வருமா? என மக்கள் சிந்திக்கும் வகையில் கேள்வி எழுப்பினார் சார்ல்ஸ்.

இந்நாவலை மீட்டுக்கொள்ள வேண்டுக்கோள் விடுத்திருக்கும் ம.இ.கா. அம்னோவிற்கும்   கல்வி அமைச்சுக்கும் எவ்வளவு நாள் கால அவகாசம் கொடுத்துள்ளது என மக்கள் குறிப்பாக இந்தியர்கள் தெரிந்துக் கொள்ள ஆவலாய் இருக்கின்றனர். அவர்களுக்கு ஏதேனும் கால அவகாசம் கொடுத்துள்ளதா ம.இ.கா? என வினவினார் சார்ல்ஸ்.

அப்படி இல்லையென்றால் , அம்னோவும் கல்வி அமைச்சும் வரும் வெள்ளிக்கிழமைக்குள் இந்நாவலை மீட்டுக் கொள்ள இணக்கம் காட்ட ம.இ.கா அயராது  உழைத்தாக வேண்டும். இல்லையேல், மிஞ்சி இருக்கும் இந்தியர்களின் ஒட்டு மொத்த நம்பிக்கையையும் ம.இ.கா. இழந்து விடும் என சார்ல்ஸ் சந்தியாகோ எச்சரித்தார்.

 

இண்டர்லோக் நாவலை பயன்படுத்தக்கூடாது – சார்ல்ஸ் சந்தியாகோ கண்டனம்

மக்களின் ஒற்றுமையை சீர்குலைக்கும் வகையில் எழுதப்பட்டிருக்கும் இண்டர்லோக் நாவலை பள்ளிகளில் பயன்படுத்தக்கூடாது.- சார்ல்ஸ் சந்தியாகோ கண்டனம்.

பிரதமரின் கொள்கையான ” ஒரே மலேசியா”  மையமாய் கொண்டு எழுதப்பட்டிருக்கும் நாவல் இண்டர்லோக்காகும். அப்படியானால் “ஒரே மலேசியா”வில் இந்தியர்கள் என்ன “தாழ்ந்த சாதியினராக” அதாவது ” பறையராக” தெரிகின்றோமா என கிள்ளான் நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்  சார்ல்ஸ் சந்தியாகோ மிக ஆவேசத்துடன் கேள்வி எழுப்பினார்.

 

மலேசிய நாட்டின் மக்களின் ஒற்றுமையை மையமாக கொண்டு எழுதப்பட்டிருக்கும் நாவல் இது; இந்நாவல் மலேசிய மக்களின் ஒற்றுமைக்கு ஒரு எடுத்துக்காட்டாக இருக்கும்;அதிலும் பள்ளி மாணவர்களுக்கு ஒரு முன்னோடியாக இருக்கும் என்றெல்லாம் இண்டர்லோக் நாவலாசிரியர்/எழுத்தாளர் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்.

 

ஆனால், இந்நாவளோ அவ்வாறு செய்வதில் தோல்விக் கண்டுள்ளது. மக்களிடையே இனவாதத்தை தூண்டும் வகையில் வார்த்தைகளும் குறிப்பிட்ட ஒரு தமிழ் சாதியினரை தீண்டத்தகாதவர்கள் என இழிவுப்படுத்தியிருப்பது பொது மக்களின் மிக முக்கியமாக இந்தியர்களிடையே மனக்கசப்பை  உண்டாக்கியுள்ளது என சார்ல்ஸ் தெரிவித்தார்.

 

2020 நோக்கிக் கொண்டிருக்கும் இக்காலக்கட்டத்தில் இந்தியர்களிடையே சாதிக் கொள்கைகள் மாறி மறந்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும் இவ்வேளையில் உணர்ச்சித் தூண்டக் கூடிய இவ்வார்த்தைகளை நாவலில் உபயோகித்திருப்பது கண்டிக்கத்தக்கது.

 

அதுமட்டுமின்றி ஒட்டுமொத்த இந்தியர்களையே சிறுமைப்படுத்தியும் இழிவுப்படுத்தியும்  எழுதப்பட்டிருக்கும் வார்த்தைகள் இந்தியர்களின் தரத்தை தாழ்மை படுத்துவதற்காகவே உள்ளதுப் போல் தெரிகிறது.

 

இந்தியர்களின் சரித்திரப் புகழ்களை எடுத்துறைக்க பல விஷயங்கள் இருக்கும் போது தேவை இல்லாமல் சாதிகளும் அதன் கதைகளும் மாணவர்களிடையே  பிளவை ஏற்படுத்தும் என்பதில் ஐயமில்லை.

 

அதுமட்டுமின்றி, இந்நூல் பாட நூலாக வந்தால் மற்ற மாணவர்களிடையே அல்லது மற்ற இனத்தவரிடையே மார் தூக்கி கொண்டு நடக்க வேண்டிய நாமும் நம் பிள்ளைகளும் தலை குனிந்து போகும் அவல நிலை ஏற்படும்.

 

தமிழர்களின் சாதியைப்பற்றியும் சரித்திரத்தைப்பற்றியும் சரியாக புரியாமல் எழுதியிருக்கிறார் நாவலாசிரியர். எழுதியவருக்கே சரியாக புரியவில்லை என்றால் பாடம் போதிக்கும் ஆசிரியர்களும் மாணவர்களும் எப்படி புரிந்துக் கொள்ள முடியும் என சார்ல்ஸ் கேள்வி எழுப்பினார்.

 

ஆகவே, புரியாத புதிராக இருக்கும்  இந்நாவலும் இக்கதையும் உடனே அகற்றப்படவேண்டும்; மாணவர்களின் போதனைக்காக பயன் படுத்தக் கூடாது என சார்ல்ஸ் கேட்டுக் கொண்டார்.
