SEPT 5 — Good on you, PAS.

PAS’s Mohamed Sabu played his hand correctly by declining to debate with Umno Youth’s Khairy Jamaluddin over the former’s alleged remarks on communism and the Bukit Kepong incident.

In rebuffing Khairy, Mat Sabu brought to surface the childish and petulant side of the leader of the Youth wing.

Khairy, in response to the rebuff, described the PAS number two as a coward and eunuch.

The Umno Youth Chief said on Twitter this evening: “That is what they elected as deputy president. That eunuch.”

That is typical behaviour of someone who has risen the political ladder quickly and without much pain or obstacles.

The minute things don’t go according to plan, rage takes over.

That is also symptomatic of Umno behaviour: If they don’t get what they want, they get angry because the sense of entitlement courses through every Umno politician.

But Mat Sabu was spot on in rebuffing Khairy.

Why should PAS make Khairy relevant? Why should Mat Sabu give Khairy an opportunity to rescue his own political career?

If Khairy really wants a debate and is not interested in some headlines, then he should not mind who PAS or Pakatan Rakyat offers up.

The fact is when Khairy and his Umno Youth cohorts organised a counter-rally to the July 9 Bersih march, barely a few hundred turned up.

The Umno Youth chief was roundly derided even by his own party colleagues.

So why should Mohamed Sabu offer him a chance at playing the hero?

Mat Sabu may well have committed a political faux pas but Khairy has shown his true colours as well through his name-calling and petulance
