She had gone to the service centre after sending Santiago to a meeting, only to find the doors left open and the emergency light disconnected.

According to her, the burglars had taken two computers along with their CPUs, keyboards and two mouse, and a printer and a modem. About RM52 in cash was also missing.

However, the damage caused by the burglars were estimated at around RM15,000 as they had destroyed the electronic door system and damaged the office.

Padlock & chain did not stop burglars

The burglary was done in a professional manner, said Devaraj, explaining that the burglars knew how to cut off the electricity and the wires connected to the lights in order to release the magnetic door.

According to Devaraj, a police report has been made and the case is currently under investigation.

She said that they are worried about the stolen computers as there are a lot of data and confidential information stored on them.

The office is not insured as the service centre only started operating last year and there were insufficient funds to pay for the insurance.

When asked by Malaysiakini, Santiago said police have looked at the CCTV recording from the office and identified three Sabahans.

He added that he did not suspect the burglary to be political in nature as there are increasing cases of such burglaries in the area.
