I would like to comment on something other than dams or getting water from underground sources.

I would like to find out if the privatized water company SYABAS is utilizing our resources without wasting most of it before it reaches our homes or factories.

My thinking is that SYABAS is the biggest user of our river waters and dams hence Selangor state government should find out from SYABAS, the following which I’ve not seen being asked in the media or any forum;

1. For a specified time period, what is the total volume of water pumped by SYABAS from all of Selangor rivers and dams? (say this is “X”)
2. For the same specified time period, what is the total volume of water received/used by all users ? (say this is “Y”)
3. Volume of water wasted would be X - Y (X minus Y)

For item 1, SYABAS should be keeping records of the volume of water pumped in at source from Selangor rivers and dams and for item 2, these should be from the all the meter readings at our homes and factories.

I hope the Selangor State government will monitor the volume of water wasted (see item 3) by SYABAS and request SYABAS for measures to reduce the wastage.

Hope you can follow through on this as I believe the amount or percentage of water wasted by SYABAS might shock all of us.
